Winning the lottery once enough is incredible. Winning it twice is a first here on the Euro Millions site of but winning it twice in one day, not possible. Or is it? Virginia from Virginia knows best!
April this year, Virginia Fike from Berryville, Virginia was so sure of her numbers she bought her ticket twice.
Fike had planned to buy a Powerball and a MegaMillions ticket using the same numbers but accidently purchased two Powerball tickets.
METHOD TO HER MADNESS
“I picked numbers based on my parents’ anniversary and their ages at that time, divided by the year they were married,” Fike said in a release from the Virginia lottery.
Her winning tickets each won $1 million, which after tax left her with a hefty $1.4million. Not quite the $314million won by another Virgina Powerball player but a story with a much happier ending at least!
The jackpot that week was at $80 million. There were no winners but 14 people nationwide had matched five of the numbers and were entitled to $1 million prizes each. Two of these were in Virginia.
SHOCK
“I saw a scroll on TV about there being two $1 million winners. I looked at my mom and said ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if it was us?'” she said.
When Fike checked her tickets she realised she had won both of Virginia’s prizes.
“It’s not that uncommon for people to buy tickets in games with the same number, but this is the biggest prize we’ve ever had in Virginia of two tickets in the same drawing,” Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty told ABCNews.com.
The store also received a $20,000 bonus for selling the two winning tickets.
“I must be dreaming,” Fike said in the press release. “I look forward to helping to take care of my parents and paying some bills.”
